Four new innovative patents of BIOHELLENIKA
Double number of stem cells after the birth, sufficient for the therapy of hematopoietic diseases of adults, ensures Biohellenika’s patent
Four new patents for innovative technology implemented exclusively in Biohellenika labs were announced. The patents ensure the maximum number of stem cells from the cord and placenta blood, the viability of stem cells throughout the duration of cryopreservation and the preparation of transplants for autologous cellular therapies.
The first patent numbered 1007483 “System of preservation of biological samples in cryovials integrally attached”, concerns innovative technology that has been designed to ensure the storage of each sample as Unique, Valuable and Irreplaceable biological material and ensures the highest viability of the total number of stem cells after thawing.
The second patent numbered 1007478, “Method of stem cells collection from the rich in hematopoietic and mesenchymal cells placenta blood”, concerns a special method of placenta drainage that allows the collection of stem cells that remain in the placenta after the initial collection of cord blood, thus collecting a second transplant during labor. By this second collection, the total number of hematopoietic stem cells is collected, that allows the use of stem cells more than one time and in overweight patients that suffer from blood malignancies. The placenta contains a lot of capillaries that cannot be evacuated by the gravity.
The third patent numbered 1007490, “Method of mesenchymal stem cell isolation from the total length of the umbilical cord”, is an innovative method of processing the umbilical cord up to 50 cm. This method allows the isolation of the maximum number of mesenchymal stem cells and therefore excludes the need of future cellular proliferation that in this case reduces the biological value of the cells.
The fourth patent numbered 1007477, “Adipose tissue cells, peripheral blood cells, platelets and fibrin glue preparations”, concerns the preparation of autologous transplants for transplantation. Up until today Biohellenika has supported about 300 autologous therapies in Greece and abroad.
The fifth patent is number 1005560, “Method for the measurement of the balance between oxidants and anti oxidants in biological liquids”. The presence of oxidative radicals in tissue reduce the viability of cells. The measurement of the levels of free radicals and the administration of antioxidants improves the function of cells and prolongs the life of the individuals.
Biohellenika has been rated as one of the best Laboratory for Process of stem cells in Europe, is based in state-of-the-art owned facilities, is internationally certified by AABB and staffed by professional doctors specially trained for the preparation of samples for transplantations.
